OMC MED ENERGY CONFERENCE SIGNS A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH ANEV,

THE ASSOCIATION OF COMPANIES IN THE WIND SECTOR

Energy transition needs alliances in the name of sustainability

OMC-Med Energy Conference and ANEV-National Association of Wind Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding for the refining of sustainable models for development in the energy field, aware that only a holistic approach can truly facilitate the transition and bring multiple solutions into play as concrete responses to climate change. OMC-Med Energy Conference, the main Mediterranean energy event, to be held in Ravenna from 28 to 30 September, has been addressing the issue of the transition towards decarbonisation for several years now with the contribution of the production sector as well as that of scholars, climatologists and international bodies.

This year the event takes a further, decisive step forward by launching a programme that includes transversal alliances, so that skills and know-how can be integrated, promoting a path of conversion and transformation towards long-term sustainability objectives. It is no coincidence that this 15th edition has as its theme "Rethinking Energy together: alliances for a sustainable energy future". ANEV is an environmental protection association that brings together some 95 companies representing the national wind sector in Italy and abroad. In the coming years, offshore wind energy will increasingly play a central role in the energy transition process and will be present in our country, thanks above all to floating technology, which is suitable for seas such as the Mediterranean. The document signed, in line with the theme of alliances lying at the heart of the OMC-Med Energy Conference strategy, involves a strategic collaboration with the aim of strengthening the development path of the offshore sector in Italy and provides for a common commitment to the sharing and exchanging of information, and for the organising of seminars and conferences. ANEV will join the OMC Scientific Committee, offering its technical-scientific expertise and will promote participation by its member companies in the events organised by OMC. "The time is now ripe for offshore wind technology to spread also in Italy, allowing our country to take advantage of this source in the same way as other European countries," commented the President of ANEV, Simone Togni. "Therefore, the signing of this agreement is very important for facilitating the necessary process of development of offshore wind, an essential path if the objectives of decarbonisation and energy transition are to be achieved. To this end, ANEV has sent the government a request to update the objectives of the Integrated National Plan for Energy and Climate to 2030, revising the potential of offshore from 900 MW to over five times that."

"With ANEV we are creating an alliance that represents a natural synergy for OMC, one linked to the development of the offshore sector. The resulting network of alliances will make it possible to pool knowledge so as to make common contributions to the great challenge that climate change imposes on us and also to encourage the development of skills through the cross-fertilisation of knowledge," said Monica Spada, President of OMC-Med Energy Conference 2021. "Promoting the debate on synergistic development strategies is in the DNA of OMC-Med Energy Conference and for this reason we are initiating important partnerships, not only to broaden the horizon of the event, but also to confirm its great potential as an aggregator, which we need to feed the transition challenge."
